Antigones
LEIMAY
The Greek myth is rendered in leimay-butoh to illustrate the experience of absence, as with families/friends of los Desaparecidos, the ‘Disappeared Ones’ of Colombia’s political upheavals. Antigone takes a stand, sacrificing her life to be buried alive. This transgression becomes a means of self-transformation and impacts society. Oppressors often make victims “disappear” so they will be absorbed by the vacuum of oblivion. LEIMAY’s Antigones is an act of remembering, gathering force in silence: a body condition, which apprehends all that has perished, multi-faceted and difficult to decipher.
