Frantic Beauty is the third part of a Pentalogy we have titled the BECOMING Series: A group of works reflecting on matter’s constant state of becoming through growth and decay, beginnings and endings. The first two parts, Becoming – corpus and borders, were presented here at BAM Fisher in 2013 and 2016. At the root of these works are questions of being: Who are we? What are we becoming? How do we become? Why do we become?

So I ran. One day, I felt that my desire was unstoppable and uncontrollable. I thought, no way. I had come too far away from what I really wanted.

Frantic Beauty as a title has been with us for a decade, the first Frantic Beauty improvisational performance happened in 2007 on the streets of the Tsukiji Market in Japan. Ten years later, those two words are still haunting us… beauty, frantically calling out from its captivity. With this work, we reflect on beauty as a form and a force in the context of our frantic times.

I wanted to have a beautiful life, which I did not really know (maybe still), so I had to find my real beauty frantically – This is my frantic beauty.
