Alius Bodies
Ximena Garnica + Shige Moriya & LEIMAY Ensemble
Alius Bodies delves into questions of otherness and the unfamiliar. “Alius” is a Latin word that translates into “another” or “other.” Through its five movements structure, “Alius Bodies” uses the lens of anotherness to reconcile with the unfamiliar in a world of diverse cultures, genders, customs, religions, and technologies. The work is set on an empty stage with video projections as the only source of light. The subject of the work is embedded in its aesthetics, challenging the notions of ‘other’ as something outside of us, reflecting on anotherness as a potential inclusive of other animate and inanimate beings.
Performed at CAVE and Hurleyville Arts Centre in August, 2019.
