Extinction Rituals - Itinerant Residencies

Extinction Rituals is inspired by acts of remembrance celebrating the life and loss of animals, plants and environments from the places they call home—Japan, Colombia, and NY.
Extinction Rituals is an ever-evolving project, with various manifestations incorporating movement, song, spoken word, music, and visual storytelling to create short rituals honoring extinct species.
During the summer of 2023, LEIMAY collaborated with thought partners and community members across Colombia in development of the Video Installation incarnation of Extinction Rituals. Encounters included workshops, memorials, and LUDUS sessions.

Extinction Rituals also manifested as a Dance Opera performed at the Japan Society, as well as a Video Installation exhibited at the Chelsea Factory.
