Season focus:
This cycle will focus on LUDUS Water & Becoming. Activate principles of nature within your body and move organically by letting go of control and creating conditions in which the force of gravity can flow through your body. We will practice expanding states of consciousness and togetherness to enable multiple realms of perception and utilize improvisation as a means of personal exploration. Each dancer’s physical potential is cultivated to develop a unique movement language rooted in transformation. Together we will decentralize self-centered approaches to movement and explore the possibilities of “being danced by” instead of “ I dance,” “becoming space-body” rather than occupying space. We will challenge our body’s materiality and enliven our sensorium through listening to the rhythms and textures of the non-human. And we will use impossibility as a spark to enrich the ways in which we create and inhabit the world.
Who should apply?
The LEIMAY Ludus Training Group is open to dancers, movement artists, actors, directors, performers as well as humans with a focused interest in connecting deeply to the LUDUS practice.
What is LEIMAY LUDUS?
As part of LEIMAY Ensemble’s regular practice, LEIMAY LUDUS explores methods for conditioning the body and developing a sensitivity to the ‘in-between space.’ LEIMAY LUDUS aims to stimulate imagination, enhance creativity, and challenge Euro-centric dance and performance training frameworks by expanding notions of body, space, and time. It is based on principles developed by LEIMAY’s Artistic Co-Director, Ximena Garnica, over nearly two decades of her study of Butoh, Noguchi Taiso, and Experimental theater, and it has been further developed by core Ensemble members over the years
