LEIMAY is delighted to introduce the dance artists of the Winter-Spring 2025 Incubator Program Cohort: Lindy Fines, Julia Lawton, Sebastian Arredondo, Nikki Theroux, Chaery Moon and Andrea Soto.
DISCOVER THEIR PROJECTS!
Over the course of 10 weeks, each member of this cohort will immerse themselves in a rigorous, intensive studio schedule, focusing on artistic research, the creation of new works, and the development of their movement and performance practices. Here’s a glimpse of what they’ll be working on:
- Lindy Fines will dedicate her time to developing movement phrases for a weekly class she teaches, while also generating material for a new work with three dancers. This initial phase will explore task-based movement generation techniques.
- Julia Lawton will focus on expanding a series of dance works. During this program, she aims to develop two of these pieces, moving closer to a full-length presentation.
- Sebastian Arredondo will use studio time to shape an interactive durational piece currently in development. This project involves codifying movement with other dancers and collaborating with DJs @Jalpari and @1ateshia to create the performance’s musical score.
- Nikki Theroux will continue developing “Return”, a duet she is working on with Dale Ratcliff. Inspired by nostalgia, memory, and grief, the piece explores how these emotions can be both healing and challenging forces for the human condition.
- Chaery Moon will research and shape “Refining Tangibleness”, a multidisciplinary project with videographer Alex Munro. Combining dance and live digital projection, the work delves into the impermanence of life through Buddhist mourning rituals, specifically the 49-day prayer cycle. This project is deeply personal, inspired by Chaery’s own experience following her grandmother’s passing.
- Andrea Soto will explore a timeless understanding of what a practice can be, delving into curiosity and desire. She will question the body’s capacity to hold memory while existing in a constant state of shedding and transformation. Working in an open and intuitive manner, she will allow knowledge to emerge organically through the body and through conversations.
Follow the journey of these inspiring artists as they develop their practices and create impactful works!
