NEW YORK BUTOH KAN TRAINING INITIATIVE: INTRODUCTORY

“Dance in the Era of Life Sciences” Our understanding of the human body is changed significantly by the sciences, both engineering and life. The identitv of man and woman is all but disappearing as we discover ways of forming life with-out the necessity of distinct and separate ‘male’ and ‘female’ forces. In this era, we are faced with questions such as how does this new understanding change the dance, which is using the body and how do we percieve life itself? “Human beings can make everything possible by their own natural power that biotechnology could do.” Today the human form in dance and butoh must be done diferently. Students will learn basic consciousness of their bodies through moveent and observation: if there is neither good movement nor bad movement, how do you see the other person’s dance?
