LEIMAY PRESENTING SERIES 2014: AT HOME

‘Mongrel (Eclipse Version)” was a solo performance by Sherwood Chen. Performance description:
In an act of translation, from one language to another exists a collision between the guaranteed betrayal of source material and the moral ambition to make the effort anyway. ”Mongrel” is a solo patchworked to harness this tension, to frame the very missing of that mark, rendering foreign bodies in a single, enigmatic body.
I. ”From the joys of the most profound love to the slightest of longings of the heart, all are but the shadow of the light.”
II. ”Never dear Rose would I have thought that once bloomed, you would disappear.”
III. ”When will the hundred summers die; And thought and time be born again; and never knowledge, drawing nigh; bring truth that sways the soul of men?”
IV.
V. ”I don’t want to stay here saying goodbye to the things which drift by. I yearn to move with them. I yearn to leave nothing behind but the ashes of a cigarette and the vestige of an embrace on your body.”
VI. ”Above all, we live in a world constructed not by things, but by lines. After all, what is a thing or a person but a weaving of lines-the paths of development and of movement-constituted by its elements?”
Translated citations from Franco Battiato, Hamid Zahir, Jards Macale and Tim Ingold. Direct citation from Lord Alfred Tennyson.
