This winter marks a significant milestone for LEIMAY as LUDUS classes are now part of the curricula at Harvard University, Sarah Lawrence College, and Marymount Manhattan College. This achievement reflects the dedication of our Ensemble and the efforts of Andrea Jones, a senior company member who has been coordinating the LUDUS teacher training program alongside artistic director Ximena Garnica.

Rooted in Butoh, Noguchi Taiso, and experimental theater, LUDUS is an embodied practice that cultivates presence, transformation, and interconnection. Andrea’s leadership has been crucial in preparing new instructors, ensuring that LUDUS continues to grow with depth and authenticity. Meanwhile, Masanori Asahara, who began by assisting Ximena’s university classes, is now co-teaching at Sarah Lawrence College, further expanding the reach of LUDUS.

Ximena continues to serve as a guest instructor at various universities, deepening the dialogue between LUDUS and academic settings. The inclusion of LUDUS in these institutions affirms the importance of embodied knowledge in fostering empathy, resilience, and a profound connection to the world around us.

We are grateful to Andrea, Masanori, and the entire LEIMAY Ensemble for their dedication and to the students and institutions embracing this practice. This winter is both a time to celebrate and an opportunity to envision the continued growth of LUDUS and its impact on the next generation of movement practitioners.

This spring, Ensemble members will lead the next cycle of community classes, marking an important step in expanding the practice! Learn more about LUDUS community classes and join us for the current cycle—either on a drop-in basis or for the entire series.
