Who should apply?
The LEIMAY LUDUS Training Group is open to dancers, movement artists, actors, directors, performers as well as humans with a focused interest in connecting deeply to the LUDUS practice.

Cycle Focus:

This cycle will focus on LUDUS Strings, LUDUS Becoming, and LUDUS Water.

LUDUS STRINGS engages with the string imagery, which can exist both inside and outside the body. It focuses on cultivating a body that is permeable and available to be moved by the strings while maintaining a connection with gravity and environment. STRINGS stimulates attunement to the interrelationship and interdependence of space-time and other bodies, while encouraging a playful encounter with such variables as force, direction, sound, and sensation. LUDUS STRINGS draws on elements from other LUDUS explorations, such as LUDUS WATER and BECOMING.

LUDUS BECOMING is based on Butoh’s cultivation of transformation and body materials. This LEIMAY LUDUS class uses imagination to delve into a multitude of shapes, textures, worlds, and experiences. Students will constantly morph and change; becoming and ceasing to be. It engages with expanding states of consciousness to enable multiple realms of perception and utilizes improvisation as a means of personal exploration. Each student’s individual physical potential is used to develop a unique and individualized movement vocabulary. Join us and dance as the nothingness of mist, the wilt of flowers, or a tangled ball of hair!

LUDUS WATER is based on principles developed through LEIMAY’s study of Noguchi Taiso. This class will be taught by members of the LEIMAY ensemble as part of their training. It focuses on conditioning a conductive body by identifying the body’s own weight in relationship to gravity and cultivating internal rhythm and fluidity. Participants will use imagination and imagery to engage with and identify the flow of energy. The meditative environment helps create a body that is both flexible and serene. The cycle will consist of three classes, including LUDUS Water.
