Eros and Thanatos

Daisuke Yoshimoto

NEW YORK BUTOH FESTIVAL 2005: PERFORMANCE

“In this work, Eros and Thanatos, Daisuke Yoshimoto regards the body as the land and goes through the circulation of the earth elements deep in the cellular memory of the body. He dialogues with Life, Land, Wind and Space. At the climax of geological birth, his body sings a song of rejoicing. At last he dedicates his body and perhaps even his life as atonement for the eternal tranquility of life and sleep for us all.” – Naghee Kaztaka

In this haunting and powerful piece about sex and death, renowned solo dancer Daisuke Yoshimoto takes us on an evolutionary journey. Using the metaphor of the naked body as landscape in flux, he transforms himself and demonstrates the tranquility of life.
